Tent City IV is a sanctioned encampment for people experiencing homelessness. As of December of 2019, Mary, Queen of Peace has submitted a petition to Host Tent City IV for a fourth time and have gained approval. We held a community meeting on November 25th seeking feedback related to the permit application. While the gathering was small, most of the questions were simply related to how members of the community can be of help to those who would be staying here.
There are 23 residents at TC4 currently (as of today). 17 are working full or part time. Three people who were there and working recently received housing. Over the 18 months, 27 other residents of the encampment were able to gain permanent housing. In the King County count of homeless from last winter, over 11,000 homeless were found to be staying in King County. TC4 offers an opportunity for residents to have their own possessions with them, build a sense of community with other residents (making the code of conduct important) and have a base to get to work or appointments as they seek permanent solutions. Sam Roberson, whom the staff know well at MQP, is the current Camp organizer. The TC4 Security Team and bookkeeper are responsible for intake of new members, including checking with King County Sheriff related to the background of members of the encampment.
